So much fun, and lots of compliments!

First of all, this was my first voyage into fiber optics. I made a dress modeled after Natalina’s on Instructables https://www.instructables.com/Fiber-Optic-Dress/
And was really intimidated. These fibers are so easy to work with, and I got TONS of attention at Magic Kingdom (Tron pic), Epcot (as a jellyfish), and fireflies (at the local botanic gardens’ glow night). Even got asked for pics by football players!

The app was easy to install, and I quickly was able to set up custom light patterns with colors, allowing me to change from Tron (a countdown red and blue) to haunted mansion colors and Halloween colors and Mardi Gras colors for Tiana’s area with a tap of a button. I ended up getting a duster to be able to play with the color when not attached to the dress, and it’s fun to play with as well!

Gets better and better

I have followed Ants on a Melon for quite a few years. I bought a fibre kit with the first (original) critter years ago, finally splashed out on the new RGB critter fibre pack last year and now I’ve bought more fibres so that I can create even more outfits! I love that you can choose the number of fibres & the length is great! I am going to attempt to make the hybrid cape/skirt next and then I shall wait for more inspiration…

This is by far the best pixel whip I have ever used

This is by far the best pixel whip I have ever used. The quality is amazing and the support team is also amazing. I had to exchange one of my whip heads as it was beautiful but toi heavy for me do to a surgery I had on my shoulder. They got back to me quickly and made the exchange so easy and convenient.

FABULOUS product, EXCELLENT customer service. Charging instructions need to be followed well to gain the most benefit from this stunning product. This item is amazing!!! With various lengths available, it can be used for a variety of purposes— from dance prop, to costume flair, and home or outdoor décor! Although the price seemed expensive at first, seemingly a glorified flashlight, the deeper I researched portable LED lighting, the more reasonable the cost became. On my own, even with help from experts in electronics and lighting, I would be unable to create anything similar for the same price—let alone something this compact. The Ants on a Melon app was the biggest deciding factor in my purchase; being able to achieve just the right effect with such ease is fantastic. There are several different projects I can’t wait to use this device for!

I also must mention the super responsive customer service. AOAM staff are polite, helpful, and far too willing to answer messages outside normal business hours. Thank you, Indigo from AOAM Support (don't forget to take a break)! Receiving my package with a cute note from Joel, Master Toymaker, was also a nice touch. I am immensely pleased with the products and the attention I received from Ants on a Melon.

Nice lights but not a standalone product and requirement of a smartphone to operate is a complete...

Lights are good, handle is improved but the smartphone requirement to use this light is a total bummer. Until this can be used by itself it's 1/5 stars for me. Sure everyone has smartphones these days but I don't want to be forced to purchase a smartphone for my cousin simply so they can use the critter BT. Once the alleged update to use without a smartphone is operational I will come back to edit my review. Thanks.

Hi Andrew, thank you for your feedback. I wanted to share an update since this review was written. The RGB Critter BT no longer requires a smartphone to operate.

As of late 2024, the Critter BT includes 20 built-in lighting modes that can be accessed and controlled directly from the onboard buttons. The app is now optional, not required. You can also export up to 20 of your favorite custom modes from the app onto the flashlight for completely standalone use.

We appreciate your early feedback and hope these improvements deliver the experience you were looking for.

ONE major thing missing.

Hi, I really really like my bitwhip. Its really well made and strong. The only thing that REALLY upset me to the point of me wanting to return it was not realising (not your fault but my own) it did not have a 360 swivel head. This makes the many fibers really hard to lightdance with. Not impossible but just not as enjoyable. Otherwise its a great whip. I will keep it and still use it but probably not to dance with, sadly.

Thanks for your feedback. The Fyber Kit is designed for customing purposes and for this reason we don't include a swivel head with this fiber optic bundle. We recommend taking a look at the BitWhip Package and BitWhip Accessories. All of these products are design for flow arts and include a built-in swivel bearing that allows your fibers to rotate.

Mega fiber head

Received new 300+ fiber head and it is STUNNING! So full and vibrant. LOVE!!

Not quite the fiber count they claim the product to have.

I was counting the fibers out for a garment design that would use all 360 fibers and only found 337. Yes, I really did count them, several times to be sure, and came up 23 short. That might not seem a big deal but when your design calls for all 360 fibers claimed to be in the bundle, being short is annoying. I've had to redesign the pattern to fit only 337 fibers. Above that, yes, I'll buy again from AOAM. They normally have a VERY good product. I'm hoping this is just a one-off. Things happen after all. I've used their kits before to design garments and they work very well. Nobody else out there has the lighted hand-piece (Critter) that works as well as AOAM. Count your fibers, folks, especially if precision matters.

I never thought I would love my whip and my fiber kit as much as I do! I am redesigning my fiber kit for a new costume this summer and I am just so excited! Just ordered another whip head and 2 sabers so I can make a staff. The RGV critter is so versatile I just can't contain my excitement!
