The short version

Ants on a Melon, Inc. ("Ants on a Melon", "we", "us") makes and sells LED flow arts and light-painting gear at antsonamelon.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have over it.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do use advertising and analytics cookies and pixels (Meta, TikTok, Google, Pinterest, Microsoft Clarity) that share limited browsing and device data with those companies to measure and target ads. Under some US state laws that counts as a "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising, so you have the right to opt out, and in the EEA/UK we ask for your consent before those trackers run. You can change your choices any time using the cookie banner or the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" and cookie-preferences links in our footer.

1. Who we are (data controller)

Ants on a Melon, Inc.
790 30th St Ste D3, Springfield, Oregon 97478, USA
Email: support@antsonamelon.com

For the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation, Ants on a Melon, Inc. is the controller of the personal data described here. Our platform provider, Shopify, and the other vendors listed in Section 6 act as our processors or, where noted, as independent or joint controllers.

2. What this policy covers

This policy applies to antsonamelon.com and any store, checkout, form, email, or SMS message we operate. It does not cover third-party sites we link to, or marketplaces such as Amazon that have their own privacy policies governing purchases you make there.

3. Information we collect

  • Identity & contact: name, email, phone, billing and shipping address (you provide at checkout, signup, or forms).
  • Order & transaction: products purchased, order value and history, returns, warranty registrations.
  • Payment: card or wallet payment processed by Shopify Payments and other processors; we do not store full card numbers.
  • Account & communications: login credentials, support messages, reviews, survey responses, marketing preferences.
  • Device & usage: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring site, clicks, approximate location, and identifiers set by cookies and pixels.
  • Marketing & advertising: how you interacted with our ads and emails, and audience/segment membership, from the advertising and email vendors in Section 6.

You can browse most of the site without giving us identity information. We only collect identity and contact data when you choose to provide it.

4. How we use your information, and our legal bases

For visitors in the EEA and UK, GDPR requires a legal basis for each use:

  • Process and deliver orders, returns, warranties, and provide support — performance of a contract.
  • Create and manage your account — performance of a contract.
  • Send transactional order, shipping, and account messages — performance of a contract.
  • Send marketing emails and SMS you opted into — consent (withdrawable any time).
  • Advertising and marketing cookies/pixels, audience building, and measurement — consent in the EEA/UK; for the US see your opt-out right in Section 10.
  • Analytics and improving the site and products — consent where required, otherwise our legitimate interest.
  • Fraud prevention, security, and protecting our rights — legitimate interest.
  • Keeping tax, accounting, and legal records — legal obligation.

5. Cookies, pixels, and tracking technologies

We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies (pixels, tags, local storage) to run the store, remember your cart and preferences, understand traffic, and measure and target advertising. You control non-essential cookies through the cookie banner and the cookie-preferences link in our footer. In the EEA and UK, non-essential cookies do not run until you consent; elsewhere you can opt out at any time.

  • Shopify — store, cart, checkout, security (strictly necessary).
  • Meta Pixel & Conversions API — measure and target ads, build audiences (marketing).
  • TikTok Pixel — measure and target ads (marketing).
  • Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Google Tag Manager — analytics, ad measurement and remarketing, tag management (analytics/marketing).
  • Pinterest Tag — measure and target ads (marketing).
  • Microsoft Clarity — session analytics and heatmaps to improve the site (analytics).
  • Klaviyo — recognize subscribers, personalize email/SMS, measure campaigns (analytics/marketing).
  • Judge.me — collect and display product reviews (functional/analytics).
  • UpPromote — attribute affiliate and creator referrals (marketing).
  • Zigpoll — post-purchase survey (analytics).

Some of these partners set their own cookies and act as independent or joint controllers of the data collected through their technology; their own privacy policies also apply.

6. Who we share your information with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the business, and only for the purposes above. We do not sell your personal information for money. Categories of recipients:

  • Platform and hosting: Shopify.
  • Payments: Shopify Payments and other payment processors and wallets you choose at checkout.
  • Shipping and fulfillment: carriers and fulfillment tools used to pick, pack, ship, and track your order.
  • Email and SMS: Klaviyo.
  • Advertising and analytics: Meta, TikTok, Google, Pinterest, Microsoft. This can include a hashed (scrambled) copy of your email address or phone number, which lets these platforms show you relevant ads or leave you out of ads for things you already bought. You can opt out using the choices in Section 10.
  • Reviews, surveys, and affiliates: Judge.me, Zigpoll, UpPromote.
  • Professional and legal: our accountants and advisors, and, where required, law enforcement or regulators, or a buyer if we sell or reorganize the business.

We require our processors to protect your data and use it only on our instructions.

7. International data transfers

We are based in the United States and process data there. When we transfer personal data from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to the US or elsewhere, we rely on appropriate safeguards, including the EU-US and UK/Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework (several of our vendors, including Klaviyo, are certified) and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (used by Shopify and others). You can ask us for detail about the safeguards for a specific transfer using the contact details in Section 12.

8. How long we keep your information

We keep personal information for as long as needed for the purpose it was collected: order and tax records for as long as required by law (generally up to 7 years); account data while your account is active; marketing data until you unsubscribe or opt out; and cookie/pixel data for the retention periods set by each provider. When we no longer need data we delete or anonymize it.

9. Your rights in the EEA and UK (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK you have the right to access your data; correct it; erase it; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time (which does not affect processing already carried out). Where our advertising or analytics relies on consent, you can withdraw it using the cookie banner or footer links. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact support@antsonamelon.com; we respond within the timeframes the law requires (generally one month under GDPR).

10. Your rights in the United States (California and other states)

Depending on your state (including California under the CCPA/CPRA, and Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Oregon, Texas, and others), you may have the right to know and access the personal information we hold about you; delete it; correct it; and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information and of targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money, but our use of advertising cookies/pixels may be considered a sale or sharing for targeted advertising under these laws.

How to opt out: use our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page (also linked in our website footer) or the cookie banner; we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as a valid opt-out; or email support@antsonamelon.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. You may use an authorized agent, and we may verify your identity before acting on a request to know, delete, or correct.

11. Marketing communications

If you opt in, we send marketing emails and, if you separately opt in, SMS. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link; reply STOP to any marketing SMS to opt out. Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional messages about your orders and account.

12. Children's privacy

Our store is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. How we protect your information

We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS) on our site and checkout, and we work with PCI-compliant payment providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and limit access to it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you on the site or by email.
