Just some guy
Pretty great, but can use some tweaks

I use the critter for light painting photography. It's a very sturdy and well built piece of gear. Some things I'd to see improved:

1. The Solid Color: White comes out very blue in photos. To work around this, make yourself a custom mode and set the color to FDFFE3 (note that you don't have to use the color wheel for this. If you click on the hex code below the color it'll let you type in the code). Save this to a playlist. Many thanks to Ken Lee for posting a blog post about this!

2. Making a new color using the color wheel, it is difficult to get the precise color you want because the color wheel is so small on a phone.

3. It's annoying that you need to be logged in to save a custom playlist for the first time. I was out in the middle of the desert with no cell service the first time, so I just had to use a different flashlight for the rest of the shoot.

4. A couple of times the critter got turned on when it was in my pack with other gear. Fortunately I noticed in time and was able to recharge it before the shoot. It would be great if the power button was recessed or otherwise covered so it wouldn't get turned on accidentally.

5. I would love to have an adjustable snoot accessory! It would be great if AOAM would make one.

6. It's unfortunate that the critter requires a special charging cable. When traveling for a shoot, if you forget the cable you're SOL. If it were standard you could pick one up at any gas station.

All in all it's a great gadget though!

We weren’t aware of the FDFFE3 white balance workaround, but that’s a great tip. We’ll look into this and consider including it as a default option in a future update. Big thanks to Ken Lee for sharing that info.

Great point about the color wheel sizing, especially on mobile. We’ll look into adding more precise controls in a future Android update.

Totally understandable. We’ll keep that in mind as we continue improving the user experience for offline use.

Thanks for the heads-up. As a workaround, you can insert the battery backwards while storing it in your pack. That’ll prevent it from turning on by accident.

Love the idea of an adjustable snoot accessory. We’ll definitely consider it for future product development.

Just to clarify, the RGB Critter BT uses a standard USB-C charging cable. That said, some cables have a bulky connector housing that doesn’t fit the Critter's port opening well. If you have a slimmer USB-C cable that fits, feel free to use it.

Game changer

I’m new to Lightpainting and was frustrated with having to change filters to achieve the color I want and sometimes had to settle for something close. With this Critter that’s no longer a concern. I can preset a desired color and then leave the app as I’m also shooting with the same phone.

Impeccable customer service for the Critter that keeps evolving

I sent my Critter BT in for service and upon return the USPS damaged the shipment. USPS sent the damaged box on to me without the Critter in it. I contacted AOAM and Indigo took swift action and my fretting quickly dissipated. The Critter was replaced and I'm goin out to light paint tomorrow evening! Thank you so much AOAM!
