Light Painting Starter Kit

The RGB Critter is a color-changing flashlight (torch) that threads at the lens, and most RGB Critter accessories are threaded to match, so you twist them straight into the front of the Critter. The saber tubes are the exception: their mounting end is bare, so they mount with the RGB Critter Tube Adapter (Long), which is included in this kit. Twist the adapter onto the front of the Critter, push the tube into its socket, then lock the two set screws with the hex key that comes with the adapter. The tip end of a saber tube is threaded from the factory, so the Saber Twist-On Cap threads straight on. The Modular Saber Tube Adapter, also included, adds an AOAM female thread to the 5 to 29 inch light painting tubes, which have no threads of their own. When the RGB Critter is turned on, it lights up whatever is attached.

Yes. Everything we make works with the RGB Critter Flashlight. Most accessories twist straight onto the front of the Critter. The bare saber and light painting tubes mount instead with the RGB Critter Tube Adapter, which is included in this kit.

Free US returns. Your item just needs to reach us within 30 days of delivery.

To start a return, email support@antsonamelon.com and we will send a prepaid label with simple instructions. Once your label is issued, please ship the item back within 14 days.

International returns are accepted on the same 30-day basis, but return postage is the customer’s responsibility.

Returns must come back unused and undamaged, in the original packaging with all accessories. Try it out and make sure it is what you wanted - what we cannot take back is gear that has been flowed with, dropped, scuffed or modified, because we cannot sell it to the next person.

The one exception on eligibility is a custom order - anything made to your own specification, such as a saber cut to a length we do not stock - because those are built for one person and cannot be resold.

If something breaks in use, that is a warranty claim rather than a return, and there is no 30-day limit on it. Email us and we will repair or replace it.

We will ask what went wrong. Not to talk you out of it, but because we can often fix the problem faster than a return can.

Yes, our Critter Connector does just this! Remove the End Cap from both RGB Critters and connect them by twisting on the Critter Connector.

An RGB light cannot be judged on the lumen scale built for white LED flashlights. Lumens measure how bright a light looks to the human eye, and the eye is weighted heavily toward yellow green. Deep blue and deep red score very few lumens no matter how much light is actually leaving the LED, so any saturated color rates low on a scale that was built for white torches.

On camera, RGB light exposes brighter than white light. A sensor does not see lumens, it sees three separate red, green and blue channels. White light spreads its energy across all three, so no single channel fills up. A saturated color puts everything into one channel, and that channel reaches full exposure long before the frame as a whole looks bright. That is why the Critter photographs far stronger in a long exposure or a video frame than its lumen rating suggests to your eye.

Under stage lighting your eye is the judge rather than a camera, and bright ambient light washes out any LED tool. We cannot promise the RGB Critter and its light-up accessories will be bright enough for every venue, so judge it on footage shot with the tool rather than on a spec sheet number.

The RGB Critter is powered by a 2500mAh 18650 battery that can be recharged via USB-C or swapped in seconds for a fully charged spare. Only use the specific 18650 battery included with your order. Use of any other battery will void the RGB Critter warranty.
